T-shirt quilts

Several months ago I was asked if I could make a t-shirt quilt for a friend who lost her husband a couple of years ago. She showed up with a laundry basket full of t-shirts. She wanted a Queen size quilt but lives in Florida so we didn't want it to be too heavy. We went through the t-shirts to prioritize the ones she really wanted in the main quilt and said I could do what I wanted with the rest and the quilt pattern was totally up to me.  Well not only did we end up with what turned out to be more like a King size quilt but 2 lap quilts and a pillow! I used every t-shirt including any logos or images that were on the sleeves or pockets.  I used the lightest batting I could find and I'm so happy with how they came out!!!   The pictures aren't the best but I did the best I could with all of the rainy days we've been having and they needed to make their way to Florida this week. So here we are, the last several months of sewing.

Look what I got!!!!

I am SOOOO excited! It's not new but it's new to me and I'm so excited to dive into machine embroidery to enhance and embellish my quilting and sewing. I need a lot more practice with lining things up and figuring out the font sizes and all. But I'm going to have so much fun as I go! This is a Brother Innov-is 500D.  Perfect entry level embroidery machine.

Finishing projects

Here are a couple of projects I finished in the last week or so. A chandelier style pattern as a wall hanging to put in my almost complete dining room.  It's going to look amazing!! This started life as a butterfly using 2" squares but I wasn't loving it. So I had a date with Jack and took it apart and started over. So glad I did. Love how this turned out!! Here it is actually up on the wall.  This pic shows the colors better. Original butterfly pattern I also finished this block from LOTR. I added to the top of it to have room for the quote which I added using HTV. It says "Not all those who wander are lost".  Not sure yet where it's going to go but I'm happy it's complete!
