Several months ago I was asked if I could make a t-shirt quilt for a friend who lost her husband a couple of years ago. She showed up with a laundry basket full of t-shirts. She wanted a Queen size quilt but lives in Florida so we didn't want it to be too heavy. We went through the t-shirts to prioritize the ones she really wanted in the main quilt and said I could do what I wanted with the rest and the quilt pattern was totally up to me. Well not only did we end up with what turned out to be more like a King size quilt but 2 lap quilts and a pillow! I used every t-shirt including any logos or images that were on the sleeves or pockets. I used the lightest batting I could find and I'm so happy with how they came out!!! The pictures aren't the best but I did the best I could with all of the rainy days we've been having and they needed to make their way to Florida this week. So here we are, the last several months of sewing.
My daughter loves Harry Potter among other things.(she is a Ravenclaw while I'm 100% Hufflepuff). I kept seeing the Project of Doom bookshelf quilt on FandomInStitches.com. So in September 2019 I started with some simple blocks, the crystal ball and books. I was hooked!!!
And here is the finished quilt top in all of it's humungous glory!! So many things I love about this!! Working with H to decide which blocks to include, what fabrics, block placement. I learned A LOT along the way!!! The first 2 'pieces' I designed on my own are in this quilt top. An extension to Faulk's tail and the books that Hagrid's umbrella is sitting on. They were pretty much done on the fly and I don't have them in an official pattern so we're going to leave them as one of a kind blocks.
I worked on the quilt top through March 2020. Sadly that is as far as I've gotten thanks to Covid-19 :(. I am hoping to get the rest of what I need so I can finish it up this summer yet. It really grew and grew and grew and ended up much larger than I expected. But I love it and so does H!!
Here are a few of my favorite blocks. I love the pattern on the tea cup!!
I took some breaks in between but I'll save those for another post. To check out these amazing patterns and so many more check out FandomInStitches.com
