Fabric Scraps ~ Size Doesn't Matter

I hate waste and one would think foundation paper piecing produces a lot of waste. That depends on what you do with those cut off bits and pieces. I save it all. They will either get used in future fpp blocks or they will get sewn into crumb blocks.

Once there isn't enough of a specific fabric left to use in any foundation paper piecing blocks it gets moved to the scrap bin.  When I have time or just need a break from fpp I sew together all my little fabric scraps. Once I have a piece of fabric roughly 10"-12" I sub-cut them into 5 1/2" squares.  Anything cut off gets put back into the scrap bin.

These blocks can be used as any other 5 1/2" blocks would. Create a quilt using just the crumb blocks, add a solid fabric to break it up. Make a colorful border or in a quilt backing. The possibilities go on and on. I love using up every little bit I can out of my fabrics!

You can see how much the sizes of my scraps varies.

Live ~ Love ~ Create ~ Sew

An original design I created for my sister's new sewing space. I'm happy to share it with you all for your personal use. Please so not sell my patterns or creations made with the patterns without permission. Because the words are individually pieced you can use them on their own or change the layout anyway you want it.  For my layout I added a 5" x 8" piece of background to the left and right of Live and Love. For Create I added a 5" x 2.5" piece to each end.  I have some photos below that I took as I was laying everything out and deciding on which I liked best.  This can easily be done with scraps from your scrap bin! Enjoy and Happy Sewing! The Owl House ~ Stringbean

FINALLY!! Luz has her palisman and isn't she the cutest!!!   I'm making it available in 2 sizes. I wanted a 12" block to turn into a pillow but since the other main Owl House blocks are 10" I have provided that option as well.  The 10" block will be slightly more challenging on the eye as it will make those pieces smaller. But I know you can do it!! Pattern - 12" Pattern - 10" Difficulty: 2 This pattern is free for personal and non-profit use only. Not to be used for manufacture or distribution. Sale of this pattern or quilts made from this pattern is prohibited. Click here for more patterns from The Owl House String bean with embroidered details String bean with no embroidery
